I have been in the security industry for over 30 years and growing. I started in electronics shortly after graduating from high school. I then immediately pursued my degree at ITT Technical Institute, eventually earning a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and Communication Technology. My first job in security was as a helper, like most technicians. Within my first year, I took my Security Level 1, Level IIa, and Level II Certification courses and passed. With my new license, I was not only able to get a promotion but also received a healthy raise. I quickly rose to become a Service Tech! With my quick learning and persistence for perfection, I started receiving requests from Fortune 500 companies to design and install high-end systems all over the country as a sub-contractor. Ten years later, everything came to a halt with Hurricane Katrina. Since my company was based in New Orleans, I lost everything. On the upside, due to the hurricane's wreckage, I was able to redefine my company and start over in the Baton Rouge area. Now, in addition to designing, servicing, and installing electronic security systems as a subcontractor, we also expanded to design, service, and install physical security systems such as bank vaults, night drops, drive-thru equipment, barriers, etc. Eventually, we were back to traveling the country again with multiple crews. During this time, I traveled to Canton, Ohio for weeks at a time to attend Diebold boot camps and their certification courses. As a perfectionist, I studied the Security Bank equipment industry until I eventually became known as a guru. Not only was I internal tech support for my company, but I also advised Fortune 500 companies all over the country, training their techs and providing first-line support. Meanwhile, the bank rebuilding projects were growing rapidly, so much so that the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office had to step in and regulate the industry. This involved permitting and licensing jobs and technicians. Boyd Petty, Chairman of the Louisiana Property Protection & Life Safety Board, knew me as "Professor" (my nickname, unofficially) and sought my advice when it came to writing new laws in the Bank Locking Industry. Boyd commissioned me to build certification courses specializing in the Security and Bank Locking Industry. For over 15 years now, I have been teaching and certifying technicians in Bank Locking, Electronics, and Physical Security all over the country. Since then, I have focused on building a school that specializes in all Security subjects. It's a place where technicians like myself can go online to learn more about specifics in our industry, such as current rules and regulations, UL Listings, how to solder, wire management, proper use of particular tools, OSHA PPE and Safety, as well as how to use a multimeter. Technicians can also earn CEUs and certifications in the Security industry. With all of this, I have opened an online version of my teaching called "The Security Professor.com!" Technicians can now take their courses online and have their testing proctored.
